Patrolman Marvin Scott Moyer

Patrolman Moyer responded as back-up to a traffic stop on February 25, 1998. The suspect had broken glass embedded in his ankle from his car windows being broken out. The suspect begged Patrolman Moyer to remove the glass and he removed the glass with his bare hand and came into contact with the suspects blood which was positive for Hepatitis C. Patrolman Moyer was infected with the Hepatitis C virus as he obtained a cut on his hand at some point during the incident when the tainted blood made contact with the officer. On May 26, 2017, Patrolman Moyer died as a result of his exposure to the Hepatitis C virus and the complications that transpired throughout the years since his exposure. Patrolman Moyer is the third officer fatality from the state of Ohio.
