Special Note about Access to the Memorial during Ongoing Restoration ProjectThe National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is currently engaged in a major, $1.1 million restoration project on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. The centerpiece of this project involves the re-engraving and re-staining of all 18,983 names on the Memorial’s blue-gray marble walls. The re-engraving and re-staining of the names is a delicate, precise and labor-intensive process. Weather permitting, it typically takes our engravers several days to complete the work on each restored panel. Unfortunately, at any given time during the restoration project, some panels on the Memorial walls will not be accessible to the public. During the time period that a panel is undergoing restoration, individuals will not be able to visit that panel or doing rubbings of any names on that panel. Once re-engraving and re-staining of a panel is complete, it will be accessible to the public once again. The Memorial Fund apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause our visitors. We hope you understand that the Memorial restoration is a vitally important project designed to ensure our nation’s monument to law enforcement service and sacrifice remains a place of honor, dignity and beauty. If you have any questions about the Memorial Restoration project, please contact us. We recommend that, prior to visiting the Memorial for a particular name or panel, you call 202-737-3400 to check on the accessibility to that panel during your planned visit. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Note: At this time, restoration work is being done on the East Wall of the Memorial. All panels on the West Wall are currently accessible. |
