National award for Oakland County deputy

An Oakland County sheriff’s deputy has been honored with a national award for his dramatic rescue of a traffic accident victim trapped in a burning car. Deputy Michael Miles, named November’s Officer of the Month by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, is being recognized for his efforts last Jan. 28 while on patrol in Orion Township.

A domestic violence incident turned deadly last month when the suspect killed four children and himself, and critically wounded one of the responding officers. The incident highlights the dangers law enforcement face when responding to domestic violence calls.
