Police officer who saved children from burning building to be honored

A local police officer was honored on Monday for saving the lives of three children who were trapped inside a burning building. Officer Tim Bowen received the December 2016 Officer of the Month award from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund on Monday.

On Thursday, visitors at the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial paid their respects to the fallen. “It’s a very sad time for our nation. Our police officers are under attack and when our police officers are at risk, all of us are at risk,” said Craig Floyd, President/CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The shootings of police officers in Texas and Missouri on Sunday were the latest in what law enforcement officials say is an alarming spike in ambush-style attacks. One-third of police officers shot to death on the job this year were purposely targeted by their assailant, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
