New Partnership between National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and POLICE Magazine to Highlight Heroic Officers

August 16, 2010

Washington, DC – The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund announced that one of the nation’s premier law enforcement publications, POLICE Magazine, is the Memorial Fund’s new media sponsor for its Officer of the Month program.

Under the new partnership, POLICE Magazine will help highlight and promote the Officer of the Month program, which recognizes and honors law enforcement professionals who distinguish themselves through exemplary service and devotion to duty.

Each month, POLICE Magazine will publish an in-depth story on that month’s Officer of the Month award recipient, telling his or her deeds of heroism or outstanding law enforcement service. In addition, the magazine will promote the Officer of the Month program through ads and other materials that encourage law enforcement leaders to recognize their outstanding officers by nominating them for the award. Additionally, POLICE-TREXPO will donate a portion of their registration proceeds to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The new partnership will help further the Memorial Fund’s efforts in law enforcement awareness and support.

“POLICE Magazine is privileged to be a part of such an inspiring program,” said Leslie Pfeiffer, Publisher and National Sales Manager. “We feel honored to have the chance to share the first person stories behind each of these officers—how they go beyond the call of duty in their community to protect the people they serve. We are proud to share these stories and pay tribute to every officer that is on the street serving our country every day.”

Begun in September 1996 by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Officer of the Month program recognizes the “living legends” of the profession. Each month, the Memorial Fund honors a deserving officer (or set of officers) at the local, state or federal level—men and women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. In addition to recognition in their own communities, Officers of the Month are honored at a special awards luncheon each May in Washington, DC, during National Police Week, and they are featured in the Memorial Fund’s annual calendar.

“POLICE Magazine’s media expertise will play a major role in getting the word out about our Officer of the Month program,” said Memorial Fund Chairman and CEO Craig W. Floyd. “We know there are so many truly exceptional officers are out there, but very few of them get the recognition they deserve. We look forward to working with POLICE Magazine to find and tell the heroic stories of America’s law enforcement.”
