“World’s Largest Law Enforcement Golf Event” Nets $60,000 for the Memorial FundDecember 28, 2009
Described as the “World’s Largest Law Enforcement Golf Event,” the tournament each year brings 1,000 or more golfers from across the country to the South Carolina coast for a week of golf, good times and fellowship. One hundred percent of the event proceeds are contributed to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund to support maintenance of the Memorial, the annual Candlelight Vigil, research and the campaign to build the National Law Enforcement Museum. Now, the final numbers are in, and the 2009 golf classic raised an impressive $60,000 for the Memorial Fund. That brings the event's 10-year total donation to $420,000. “We are extremely grateful to Dan and Cindy Morphet and their dedicated group of volunteers for putting on such a first-class event every year,” said Memorial Fund Chairman and CEO Craig W. Floyd. “Thanks to their leadership and hard work, and the steadfast support of the International Union of Police Associations/AFL-CIO, hundreds of people each fall can enjoy a week of golf and camaraderie, and the Memorial Fund can continue our important work of honoring America’s law enforcement heroes,” he added. Mr. Morphet, a retired law enforcement officer from New York State, is the tournament director. The International Union of Police Associations/AFL-CIO, a member of the NLEOMF Board of Directors, has been a leading sponsor of the golf classic for the past 10 years. And mark your calendars: the 11th Annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Golf Classic will take place November 7-12, 2010, in Myrtle Beach, SC. Registration is now open.
