This Summer, Slow Down and Move Over |
Just this month, three U.S. law enforcement officers— California Highway Patrol Officer Philip Ortiz (June 22), Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Doug Weddleton (June 18), and New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano (June 6)—have been struck and killed by motorists as the officers were outside their vehicles. These and other tragedies are sober reminders of the dangers officers face on the side of America’s roadways, especially during the summer months when more people are driving and more officers are out on patrol to keep us safe.
You, your family members and neighbors can do something to help protect our officers—beginning with slowing down and moving over one lane of traffic when you see a police cruiser or any emergency vehicle stopped along the side of the road. For more information and tips, visit the Memorial Fund’s Drive Safely Campaign, and sign our Drive Safely pledge today.

Win a Harley — Help Build the Museum |
For the fourth year in a row, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has come up with a unique way to support the National Law Enforcement Museum—and make one motorcyclist very happy. The company has donated a 2010 Road King® Peace Officer Special Edition, which the Memorial Fund is raffling for just $25 a ticket. Proceeds from the raffle go to the campaign to build the Museum.
Tickets can be purchased by phone—877-544-BIKE (2453) or 202-737-3402—or in person at the Memorial Fund’s Visitors Center & Store. The raffle drawing will be held on the evening of October 14, during the gala celebrating groundbreaking for the Museum, which takes place earlier that day. The winner need not be present to win.
