Description: Jail Matron Hart was walking through a section of the county jail she believed to be secured. An inmate, Reuben Ellis, had hidden behind a curtain holding an iron bedpost. He struck her in the head as she walked by in an attempt to secure her keys and escape. Anna Hart is the first known female law enforcement officer to be killed in the line of duty.
