Description: Deputy Beckwith was shot while attempting to serve a warrant to Billy the Kid and his Regulators for the murders of lawmen William Brady and George Hindman. Deputy Beckwith was fatally shot in the head during a fierce gun battle. Billy the Kid escaped. Billy the Kid was responsible for the deaths of three additional law enforcement officers before his was shot and killed on July 14, 1881: James Carlysle, James Bell and Robert Olinger.
